The Ertl company was a toy manufacturing company which released several toys for Thomas and Friends. The most important line of toys were 1/64 sized die-cast models made of metal with couplings that hooked up onto each other that were first released in 1984 (making them one of the oldest Thomas toy brands) and originally had paper faces, but since they peeled away easily were replaced
with fixed-on plastic faces in 1990.
